เรือหลวงสายบุรี มีนามเรียกขานสากล HSMD และมีหมายเลขเรือ  458 สังกัดหมวดเรือที่ 2 กองเรือฟริเกตที่ 2 กองเรือยุทธการ  เป็นเรือฟริเกตติดตั้งอาวุธปล่อยนำวิถี พื้น-สู่-พื้น ซึ่งสามารถปฏิบัติการร่วมกับเฮลิคอปเตอร์ได้โดยมีดาดฟ้าเฮลิคอปเตอร์อยู่บริเวณท้ายเรือ  มีขีดความสามารถในการปฏิบัติการทั้ง  3 มิติ  สามารถปฏิบัติการเพื่อป้องกันประเทศได้ดังนี้

1.ป้องกันน่านน้ำอาณาเขตให้ปลอดภัยจากการรุกรานของข้าศึก ทางทะเล 2. Operation with Fast ปฏิบัติการร่วมกับเรือยนต์เร็วโจมตี 3. Anti Surface warfare 4. Anti Air warfare 5. Naval Gun Fire Support 6. Convoy ทำหน้าที่เป็นเรือคุ้มกันให้กับกองเรือ 7. ปฏิบัติการปราบเรือดำน้ำโดยอิสระ หรือร่วมกับกองเรือ หรือเครื่องบินปราบเรือดำน้ำ

H.T.M.S Saiburi is a Guided missile frigate class ship built by Hutong Ship Building, The people Republic of modern fighting ship of The Royal Thai Navy which operates a multi - purpose helicopter on board thus increasing her capabilities in surveillance, searching, identification and over the horizon targeting. The main armament comprises of eight C-801 surface to surface missile and one twin-barrel 100 mm. gun. The secondary armaments include four twin-barrel 37 mm. guns and two five-barrel rocket dept charge launchers for anti-submarine warfare. The ship accommodation facilities are designed to make the ship company as comfortable as possible. The operational and living space is fully air-conditioned Other features include automatic laundry machine self-contained medical facilities and fully electrically operated galleys.
